After working for many years in various publicity agencies and managing international projects for the ‘Surfrider Foundation Europe’, Ale Romo realized that her place was behind the camera documenting the good life, the surfers and the joys of the ocean. As a globetrotter at heart, she has always been curious about new cultures and languages, and exactly this ‘hunger for the unknown’ had her end up living in Mexico, San Francisco, L.A., Paris, Barcelona and Nicaragua; always looking for new places to explore.

About her photography she says: “I am especially attracted by silhouettes, high contrasts and backlit photos. I like natural poses and I try to make people feel comfortable around me to create a very intimate moment with my subjects that can be reflected in my pictures. I want the observer to feel this and to feel the moment, documenting a very unique moment. Most of the time I write about these moments to go with the pictures. I contribute my photographic stories to a handful of online magazines like Seshn, Korduroy, The Inertia and others who ask me to.”

With her photography, Ale aims to inspire people of all walks of life, yet for the most part she aspires to encourage women to be adventurous, to go travelling and explore the world as a way to discover themselves. For this purpose, Ale created ‘From Where You’d Rather Be’, a reminder that “you should be wherever you want to be, and live your life by design, not by default.”
